The Sunrise story

Sunrise Then

In 1980 Carol Inglis, Margaret Inglis, and Janice Edelman saw a need in Richmond, Indiana for equine therapy to assist individuals with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities. The three became certified through the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association and began giving lessons to those in need.

Sunrise, Inc. continued to grow and was organized as a 510(c)(3) nonprofit organization based a short drive outside of Richmond. Sunrise employs PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) Certified instructors, and PATH CTRI in training. Our program horses and ponies all love interacting with people and working with our participants!

Sunrise Today

Our home today looks much different through a fantastic partnership with Earlham College at the Suzanne Hoerner Jackson Equestrian Center! This state of the art equestrian center offers 25 stalls, a bright and beautiful indoor arena, outdoor riding spaces, indoor facilities such as office space, classroom space, wash stalls, and indoor restrooms. This space was truly an upgrade for our participants, horses, volunteers and staff. Sunrise is grateful for the partnership with Earlham College. We can't wait to show you around our new space!
